German copperplate engraving by Theodore de Bry showing Pizarro, Almagro and Luque deciding on how to handle the wealth of Peru, from America, 6th book (1597), hand colored. 12-1/2" x 8-3/4" (image 7-3/8" x 6"). A Panama coastal scene with Spanish armed soldiers embarking and workers loading boats for ships anchored just off coast while the triumvirate of Hernando de Luque (a priest acting as an agent for the financial backer), Francisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro (Pizarro's close friend) sit at a table discussing their upcoming expedition to Peru. Paper is very thin in spots with some staining to bottom right edge and image which does not affect its beauty, small hole in the upper left-hand side.
