Encrusted pistol with "dogface" butt, from an unidentified 1500s Yucatan wreck. 1792 grams, 17-1/2" long. Almost fully encrusted colonial pistol with ornate brass trigger guard and "dogface" butt intact and visible. Trigger guard features a winged bird, female portrait, and smiling man (curious trio if nothing else). Butt plate still spherical with raised, smiling or laughing dog face, everything else pretty much cocooned in reddish coral. The muzzle is entombed in a large round piece of coral. Spectacular display item. (Pickup in person recommended; shipping at buyer's risk.) From an unidentified late-1500s wreck off the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, pedigreed to the Stuart Auerbach collection. Accompanied by photo enlargements.
($1000-2000)
