Early Spanish colonial naval ship's axe head, 1600s. 1027 grams, 14-1/4" x 6-3/4". One of the earliest forms of a ship's boarding and fighting axe, this hand-forged (with visible forging marks) tool was originally mounted on a very long handle, now gone. Nicely-shaped curved-edge blade, large hooked point for fighting and grappling, age-pitted surface, cleaned and preserved, from a Florida collection. With photo-certificate.
