Allen & Thurber patented .34-caliber/six-barrel "pepper box" percussion pistol, circa 1837. 648 grams, 8" long, 3-1/2" barrel. Made in Worcester, Mass. by Allen & Thurber (as stamped on barrel with patent listed as 1827), one of the first successful revolvers and an interesting transition piece from simple percussion pistols to the six-shooters of Wild West fame, typically carried by soldiers in the Mexican War and miners in the 1849 Gold Rush. All steel age-toned patina frame with maker's mark and "cast steel" floral engraving, polished walnut grip. Overall very good condition with percussion ignition and rotating barrel which cocks and fires each trigger pull, and barrel loose but functional. With photo-certificate.
($500-750)
