Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1631/0 with date rendered as "163*1" (unique), assayer D, ex-Concepcion (1641), ex-Rudman. S-M18a; KM-45. 26.22 grams. Typically crude strike with much flatness and uneven thickness yet with bold full oMD, nearly full and 100% certain 3*1 of date (first we have seen of this variety) with clear 1/0 (and we have never seen a 1631 without overdate, by the way), also with distinctive fleurs at the ends of the cross (different from the one or two other 1631/0's we've seen), very solid and nearly corrosion-free (impossible to grade), deeply toned all over. From the Concepcion (1641), and pedigreed to the Isaac Rudman collection.
