Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales Royal (galano), 1657E, pomegranate at top on both sides, with Guatemala sun-over-mountains countermark (Type II, 1839) on cross, very rare. S-P37a; KM-R21; CT-419. 27.23 grams. Lovely XF, lightly toned, with 100% full details, including the countermark, tiny hole to right of cross, die-match with Lazaro #152 (rarity R2). Curiously, as is the case with this coin, most of the many different 1657s known (Lazaro shows seven) show an inner ring inside the border of dots on both sides, and it is one of only two dates in the 1600s (the other being 1666) to show the center date in three digits.
