Argentina (River Plate Provinces), 8 reales, 1815F, Potosi mint, NGC MS 63+, finest known in NGC census, ex-Madonna (stated on label). Janson-5.1; KM-14. With brilliant luster and no more than a handful of bagmarks, also with fully detailed strike and lovely "mint bloom," this coin is currently the finest on record for the 1815 date (surpassed in the type by just a couple 1813s in MS 65), nearly complete rims on both sides, a highly popular "sunface" issue from the Potosi mint after capture from the Spanish by the United Provinces' Army of the North in 1813. NGC #4719216-001. Pedigreed to the J. Madonna collection, with copy of Luciana Pezzano's book Las Primeras Monedas Patrias y los Origenes del Escudo Nacional (2015).
($2000-4000)
