Spink 18, Zurich (February 1986), lot no. 701. - According to Audrey Peli the obverse die had not been in use in 283 H as she could find four different obverse dies used for a sample of 15 dinars which showed the name of the caliph al-Mu'tadid billâh. Apparently there was an interruption in the minting at some point as also the year 284 H cannot be traced. Plausibly the die used for the obverse of the present coin remained unused or very little used in 283 H (Audrey Peli, Monnaie, métal et pouvoir. Diss. Sorbonne 2008, vol. II, p. 195 and 197).
