CEYLON (DUTCH): AR tanga (4.22g), cf Sch 1265; Gomes 18.0x, with GAL monogram countermark for the city of Galle, applied in 1680, struck on silver tanga of Portuguese Goa with standing figure of St. John, VF. Portuguese Indian coins were countermarked by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) for use in their colonies in Ceylon.
