SWEDEN: AR medal (403.10g), 1974, Hackl & Klose, page 91, 60mm, 3-component .999 fine silver medal of Leonardo da Vinci by Kauko Räsänen, struck Sporrong, the top part of the medal shows four views of da Vinci's face with LEONARDO - DA VINCI around, with the reverse a view of a man in a ribbed suit and helmet against geometric designs and a small rendering of Vitruvian Man to left, all within an incuse square; the middle portion shows depictions of Leonardo's inventions on a raised square with "1452 - 1519 ", and the reverse showing the concept of perspective with Leonardo at left; the bottom piece shows a human face facing superimposed against a skull left, with the reverse showing a horse running left with rider looking to rear, oxidized silver finish, contains 12.16 oz. of pure silver, number 610 of 1000 pieces made, with certificate of authenticity, a unique construction, plain edge(s), Choice UNC Kauko Kalervo Räsänen (1926-2015) was a Finnish sculptor and medallist. Räsänen, was born in the village of Loimola, in Karelia. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Finland from 1946-1950. He is known for medals and large-scale, sometimes relief-shaped sculptures. The most famous works of Räsänen are Enkeli in Lappeenranta, the doors and reliefs of the Espoo council building, the 50th anniversary of Veikkaus, and the monument to the heroic wizards of the past and Karelia. He was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal in 1963. Between 1979 and 1984, Räsänen was an art professor. The Räsänen studio in Espoo district, Souka has grown into a cluster of five studios for renting premises for young artists.
