ARAB-SASANIAN: 'Abd Allah b. Busayr, fl. 713/714, AE fals (0.96g), NM, AH95, A-49V, Gyselen-, transitional type between the Arab-Sasanian and the post-reform Umayyad copper coinage, without mint name, dated 95 (713/14 AD), in the name of 'Abd Allah b. Busayr, VF-EF, RRRR. This unique piece is strictly in the Arab-Sasanian pashiz fabric, but with purely Arabic legends that resembles contemporary Syrian or Jaziran fulus, and inscribed with the Arabic denominational name "fals ". According to Treadwell, the earliest reform fulus were struck at some point between 96 and 100, but always purely anonymous as the Syrian type A-153, without mint, date or gubernatorial name. The addition of a date and name commenced at al-Kufa in the year 100, and rapidly spread to other mints in Iran & Iraq. This piece confirms that the transitional period must have begun by AH95.
