BUWAYHID: Sultan al-Dawla, 1012-1024, AR dirham (2.66g), Nawbandajan, AH413, A-1581, Treadwell--, with Qur'an sura 112 on the reverse, very lightly polished, probably unique, VF, RRR. Extremely rare mint, cited by Treadwell (page 330) only for an unverified example said to be in the ANS collection. The town of Nawbandajan was quite important in the early Islamic period, along the trade route between Arrajan and Shiraz, north of the modern city of Kazerun, but almost never a mint city. It was largely abandoned before the arrival of the Mongol, and only the ruins survive today.
