GREAT MONGOLS: temp. Ögedei, 1227-1241, AV dinar (2.03g), Astarabad, AH632, A-1966var (to be A-3723A), Shi'ite reverse, without any reference to the Abbasid caliph, some weakness as expected, but overall of the finest style, EF, RRR. The mint name is boldly clear in the obverse margin, followed by "ithnatayn " for "2 ". The rest of the date, but not the "2 ", was clear on another example that was sold at the Wilkes & Curtis Auction 10, Lot 112 (attributed to the time of Chingiz Khan), but with this evidence it can be securely assigned to the time of Ögedei.
