Transylvania Dukat Sigismund Bathory, 1581-1602
Double strike, very nice-excellent Transylvanian dukat contemporary imitation in the Netherlands. The legends of the front and rear are almost identical with MON TRANSM - DNI NR ZS and MOR TRANN - MORIS NRI and are not correct. It lacks the otherwise usual PATRONA VNGARIE the back. Also missing is the mint mark and the year. The design of the Madonna is reminiscent of the room-filling broad imprints of Stephan Bárthori (1571-1575) and Christoph Bárthori (1576-1581). The coat of arms below the Madonna representation, however, is hardly recognizable and seems to show a kind of scepter. Gold, 3.46 g.
