The reverse legend refers to the office of "cvrator denariorum flandorum," curator for the casting of denarii, which may have been an antique form of the more well known moneyer title as a group of three men: "tresviri aere argento auro flando feriundo." It's an unusual example of the mint management process being mentioned directly on the face of a coin, comparable to the Caesar issue with the legend A.A.A.F.F. later in this sale. The difference in title may be a consequence of this being likely a Spanish issue and perhaps thus not part of the regular moneyer arrangements. [Andrew McCabe]
