ANGLO-SAXON, Secondary Sceattas. Circa 715-740. AR Sceatt (11mm, 1.21 g). Series E / SEDE (type 89) mule. Uncertain ecclesiastic mint in southeast England (poss. London). 'Porcupine' right, containing pellet and three lines / Central cross with pellet-in-annulets at ends; (retrograde S) E C E in quarters. Naismith, Money, Group 3B, a = Abramson 93.30(2) = Coin Register 2008, 127 = EMC 2007.0330 (this coin); otherwise unpublished. VF, toned. Extremely rare, one of two recorded by Naismith, and the sole example with the porcupine facing right.
