ANGLO-SAXON, Secondary Sceattas. Circa 735-745. AR Sceatt (13mm, 0.85 g). Series S, type 47. Mint in Essex. Female centaur standing left, torso facing, holding palm frond in each hand / Four wolves' heads in clockwise circle, tongues forming whorl. Abramson 68.40; cf. SCBI 69 (Abramson), 770-5; SCBC 814. Near EF, toned, slightly off center. Excellent metal for this issue. Rare thus.
