CAESAR•DIVI•AVG•PRON•AVG•P•M•TR•P•IIII•P•P, laureate head of Caligula left / ADLOCUT, Gaius, bare headed, togate, standing left on platform before low stool, haranguing with right hand extended to five soldiers holding shields and aquilae; COH in exergue. From the Morris Collection

After the Senate declared a damnatio memoriae against Gaius after his death, calling for the destruction or defacement of all images of the emperor, the coins which were not melted were either marked on the portrait, or had the first letter 'C' (for Caius) removed from the obverse legend as on this example.
