Ancients
Commodus (AD 177-192). AE as (26mm, 11.13 gm, 6h). VF. Two Obverses Series. M ANTONINVS-COMMODVS AVG, laureate head right, drapery on left shoulder / M ANTONINVS-COMMODVS AVG, laureate head right, drapery on left shoulder. cf. RIC III (Marcus Aurelius) 1260.

From the Morris Collection.

A seemingly unpublished type that appears to fit into the "two obverses" series of AD 179-180. A hallmark of the two obverses series is identical or near identical portraits on both obverse and reverse, but this coin seems to feature a middle-aged portrait of father Marcus Aurelius on the obverse and a young bust of the son and new Augustus, Commodus, on the reverse.
