Gallienus (AD 253-268). BI antoninianus (21mm, 3.67 gm, 12h). VF. Mediolanum (Milan), AD 258. GALLIENVS AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right / LEG IIXX VI P VI F, capricorn right. RIC V.I 362.
From the Morris Collection
RIC footnotes state: The 18th Legion was destroyed with Quinctilius Varus in the Teutoberg disaster, and was never re-formed. It must be assumed that the legend IIXX is the moneyer's blunder for XXII, the capricorn being the badge of Legio XXII Primigenia.
