John V Palaeologus (AD 1341-1391), with John VI Cantacuzenus. AV hyperpyron (26mm, 3.45 gm, 7h). NGC AU 4/5 - 4/5. Constantinople, AD 1347-1353. Facing bust of the Virgin, orans, within city walls with four groups of towers; sigla: Δ-Γ across lower fields / IωNXω-IωNXω, John VI (on left), and John V (on right), both wearing divitision and loros, holding outer arm to chest and kneeling at either side of Christ, nimbate, standing facing, placing hands on their heads; IC-XC barred across upper fields. Sear 2526. This hyperpyron issue is from the last gold coins struck for the emperors of Byzantium.
