These "oboli" were made by cutting off the legend of a denier. Schlumberger on p. 55 writes, "Cette mutilation fréquente semble avoir été pratiquée régulièrement." The first one was bought in G. Hirsch Nachf., München, Auktion 155, 23. 9. 1987, lot 1405.
