ARMENIA. LEVON III, 1301-1307. Takvorin in the name of Levon III. The king on horseback r., three dots in left field. Rv. Lion r., cross on his back. 1.50 g. Bed. -.
Very fine

Comment by E. Wäckerlin: The drawing of the figures and of the letters is rather awkward and careless. However, the name LEVON is legible on the obverse. The three dots as a field mark indicate Levon III, but the weight is too low for his time. The silver content seems to be very low. Possibly the coin was made from copper with no silver content at all. The letters are definitely Armenian and not pseudo-Armenian as on the post-Rupenian coins after 1375. I suspect that the coin is a contemporary fake from the 14th Century. Bought from Erwin Dietrich AG, Zürich, in Feb. 2010.
