ARMENIA. OSHIN, 1308-1320. Takvorin, overstruck with a dirham die of the Mamluk sultan an-Nasir Muhammad. On the extreme right a horse's hoof and a letter as field mark are visible. Rv. Lion r., a pellet and a cross above his back. 2.21 g. Bed. 1946, 1947. Cracked.
Very fine

Bedoukian, CCA p. 16: "Eventually ... the Mamluk sultan consented to a fifteen year peace on condition that the Armenians pay an annual tribute of 1,200,000 takvorins, ..." So the Armenian coins came to the Mamluks as tribute and were then overstruck. Comment by E. Wäckerlin: As the first three letters of the ruler's name are legible we can safely say that the overstruck coin belongs to Oshin. Ex Classical Numismatic Group, Lancaster, PA, Auction 27, Sept. 29, 1993, lot 195, and ex CNG Auction 85 ("The R. A. Collection"), Sept. 15, 2010, lot 125h. Bought from Vilmar Collectibles, Big Indian, NY, in Oct. 2011.
