Anglo-Saxon Coins Alfred the Great - Liafwald - Cross-and-Lozenge Penny. 875-880 AD Second coinage, BMC type v. Obv: profile bust right with +ELFRED REX legend. Rev: cross-in-lozenge over beaded long cross with crossbars at angles of lozenge dividing LIA FVA LD MON legend for the moneyer Liafwald. S. 1058; N. 629; cf. SCBI 67 (BM Anglo-Saxon II) 1427 (same dies?"). 3.28 grams. ("). Found near Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, 2018. This issue shares a reverse type contemporaneously with coins of Ceolwulf II (874-879 AD, see Spink 944), including dies for the moneyer form Liofwald. Near as struck; chipped at edge and cracked across. Very rare.
