English Medieval Coins - Henry III - Canterbury / Willem - Class 5d3 Long Cross Penny. Circa 1256 AD Class 5d3. Obv: facing bust with sceptre and HENRICVS REX III legend. Rev: long voided cross and pellets dividing WIL LEM ONC ANT legend for the moneyer Willem at Canterbury mint. S. 1370B; N. 994; cf. C&T C540-C541 for examples and pp.64-73 for discussion. 1.45 grams. This rare class was only struck for the mints of London, Canterbury and Bury St Edmunds. Coins of this general type sometimes show aberrant reverse legend forms including KAN for CAN at Canterbury and BERI for Bury St Edmunds. Very fine. Rare.
