British Commemorative Medals - Phrenology - White Metal Symbol Medallion. Struck after 1805 AD By Thomason. Obv: facing head outlined with numbered phrenological zones with explanation list in six panels around with PHRENOLOGY at top and signed at bottom edge. Rev: profile head similarly outlined in zones and described. See Storer Memorial Collection of Medical Medals at the Centre for the History of Medicine, Massachusetts, USA, item reference E2003.1.36 for another example of this medallion. 115.4 grams, 73mm. ("). This medallion was struck to honour Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828 AD), commemorating his lectures in Berlin in 1805; the medal depicts the symbolical head; the obverse and reverse delineate the thirty-five phrenological zones and faculties as conceived by J. G. Spurzheim (1776-1832 AD"). Extremely fine. Rare.
