JUDAEA, Aelia Capitolina (Jerusalem). Macrinus. AD 217-218. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 12.29 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing on thyrsus, head and tail left, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; wine jar between legs. Prieur 1638 (same dies as illustrated coin); cf. Meshorer, Aelia 96a; Sofaer –. VF, toned, a touch of porosity, small deposit on obverse. Extremely rare, only three known to Prieur, and two in CoinArchives, including this coin.
