SICILY, Leontini. Circa 466-460 BC. Electrotype "Tetradrachm" (27mm, 12.89 g, 3h). British Museum electrotype by Robert Ready or his sons (marked R on edge). Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike, flying left, crowning him with fillet; in exergue, lion right / Laureate head of Apollo right; laurel leaves above and to left and right; below, lion right. Head, Guide, Period III.B., 7-8. For prototype, cf. Noe, Thurian, Group B, 2a = BMC p. 289, 26. As made, toned.
