For Deane's coffee house in Broad street see Lillywhite, London Coffee Houses, no. 341. Deane is shown living in St Mary Abchurch precinct in the Lady Day 1662-3 hearth tax returns, but presumably moved promptly after the Great Fire to Broad street which lay just outside the devastated zone. In 1677-8 he was suspected, along with several other coffee house proprietors, of assisting with the circulation of seditious papers
