Manchurian Provinces. Kuang-hsü Dollar Year 33 (1907) AU55 NGC, Fengtien mint, KM-Y212, L&M-487, Kann-255, WS-0546, Wenchao-810 (rarity 1 star). Shallow scales variety. An incredibly elusive dragon dollar minted by this confederation of provinces comprising Fengtien, Heilungkiang, and Kirin, the present piece undeniably represents the upper crust of certified examples, just 3 examples certified finer, only one of which had reached the Mint State level. With only the most minor friction on the dragon's forehead and scattered bagmarks in the fields, it would seem that this coin stands very nearly on the upper end of the AU range, the surfaces beautifully textured by flow lines and a soft glow abounding. Certainly among the nicest we have offered, an AU50 bringing $9,858 in our June 2016 Hong Kong sale and an AU53 $31,725 in our January 2014 New York Auction.
