Japan
Meiji 50 Sen Year 13 (1880) XF Detail (Cleaned) PCGS, Osaka mint, KM-Y25, JNDA 1-14, JV-S7. Mintage: 179. Because of its incredibly low-mintage of fewer than 200 examples, the 1880 50 Sen ranks of one of the rarest coins within the entire Japanese series, stirring significant excitement when it is seen on the market. We are therefore pleased to offer such a specimen, which, though circulated, displays an exceptional level of detail throughout its surfaces, over which has settled a a deep silver patina that concentrates around the devices to an accenting effect. For any dedicated collectors of the Japanese series this lot represents a rare chance to fill what is likely otherwise necessarily a gap in even an expansive collection.
