Yi Hyong white metal Pattern 2 Niang Year 495 (1886) MS62 NGC, KM-Pn15, K&C-24.3 (for type). This very rare issue was struck in white metal as a test for the first machine-struck coinage series in Korea. Bright and lustrous with reflective fields, featuring two intertwined dragons on the obverse and characters within a center ring surrounded by a wreath on the reverse. All devices are struck to the greatest clarity, an observation that fits this issue's special production. A strong complement to the 5 Niang Pattern also offered in this sale, and a scarce opportunity to be sure.
