Meiji 50 Sen Year 4 (1871) XF Detail (Harshly Cleaned) PCGS, KM-Y4a.2, JNDA 01-13A. Type II. Variety with Large Dragon surrounded by a 21mm circle of dots, and only two spines exposed on the beginning of its back. An exceedingly rare variety for this first year issue likely long missing from many a collection of Japanese coins and rarely found so affordable. We note that the designating cleaning appears entirely confined to the obverse, the reverse quite original and bathed in a rich violet and turquoise cabinet tone.
