Straits Settlements Chartered Bank of India, Australia, & China, Penang 100 Dollars ND (1875-1899) Pick S105s KNB5 Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 Net. Possibly a unique offering, and of huge historical importance to the numismatic history of Southeast Asia. The Chartered Bank of India, Australia, & China had branches in George Town (Penang) and Singapore, which were the two largest cities of the Straits Settlements. In the 19th century, the Straits Settlements only included Penang, Dindings, Malacca, and Singapore, all of which were important ports for trade with India and other Asian regions. This interesting Specimen of the highest denomination issue would have circulated in those four regions during the 19th century. British influence in the region solidified and expanded, and private bank issues gave way to Government issues beginning in 1898. This specimen is of the highest degree of rarity, and should not be missed, as it cannot be predicted if another example will ever surface. The punishing climate caused paper products to wear out quickly, and overwhelmingly most of the private issues have been redeemed a century ago. The spots of adhesive on this Specimen do not detract from the overall impression left by this extraordinary offering. HID08701242017

Estimate: 35000-40000 USD
