Diocletian (?), 284-305. Follis (Bronze, 27 mm, 9.12 g), uniface mint error, Treveri, circa 300-301. Blank. Rev. M SACRA AVGG ET CAESS NN / ✱ / BTR Moneta standing front, head to left, holding scales in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. RIC 462a or RIC 462b. An interesting mint error. Some corrosion, otherwise, very fine.
From the Tetrarchy Collection, formed over the past twenty-five years.
This uniface mint error probably resulted from a second flan being stuck in between the coin and the obverse die. We have tentatively attributed it to Diocletian, but it might as well be an issue of Maximianus.
