To left, Θ/Γ/Є; to right, ω[/P/Γ] Nimbate facing bust of Saint George, holding a spear over his right shoulder and resting a shield on his left arm. Rev. +KЄ R,Θ/Tω Cω Δ૪ / [X]APΠHN / ACΠAΘA/PIO in five lines. Zacos II 394. Zacos sale II (Spink 132) lot, 113. A large and impressive piece. Very fine.


Cheynet notes in his comment in the Zacos sale II catalogue that Charpen is the Greek transliteration of Harb, a 'Caucasian name popular among Armenians, Georgians and Arabs'.
