LYDIA. Sardes. 4th century BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.74 g, 11 h). Head of Dionysos to left, wearing wreath of ivy. Rev. F-S (in Lydian) Kantharos. CNG E-Auction 248 (2011), 119 (as 'Syros'). Gorny & Mosch 203 (2012), 197 (as 'Naxos'). Vögtli, Pergamon 524. A beautiful piece with an attractive dark patina. Good very fine.


The Lydian legend F-S (or S-F) indicates that this issue was struck at Sardes, which was called Sfard in Lydian.
