CYPRUS. Paphos. Stasandros, second half of 5th century BC. Stater (Silver, 26 mm, 10.96 g, 3 h). Bull standing left; above, winged solar disk; to left, ankh-like symbol; in exergue, palmette ornament. Rev. 𐠨𐠭𐠨𐠰𐠦 𐠪𐠞 ('sa-ta-san-do-ro pa-si' in Cypriot syllabic script) Eagle standing left with closed wings; to lower left, ankh-like symbol; to upper left, olive sprig; all within incuse square. BMC pl. XXI, 9 var, SNG Copenhagen 26 var. and Tziambazis 7 (all without olive sprig). CNG E-Auction 430 (2018), 188. A very rare variety. Struck from worn dies, otherwise, good very fine.


From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The olive sprig on this reverse die was most certainly copied from the Athenian silver coinage.
