Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 19 mm, 2.78 g, 7 h), a contemporary plated imitation, irregular mint, after 49. CAESAR Elephant trampling serpent to right. Rev. Priestly implements: culullus, aspergillum, ax with wolf's head at the top and apex. Cf. Babelon (Julia) 9. Cohen 49, Crawford 443/1, RBW 1557, Sydenham 1006 and Woytek, Arma et Nummi, p. 119ff (for prototype). Breaks in plating and with minor scratches, otherwise, very fine.
