Man. Acilius Glabrio. 49 B.C. AR denarius (18 mm, 3.95 g, 4 h). Rome. SALVTIS, laureate head of Salus right / M · ACILIVS III · VIR · VALE(TV), Valetudo standing left, holding snake and resting elbow on column. Crawford 442/1a; HCRI 16; Sydenham 922; Acilia 8. Toned. Good very fine / very fine.

Salus and Valetudo are both goddesses of good health, and here they possibly signify the relief and gratitude of the moneyer and the people of Rome for the recovery of Pompey the Great who had fallen gravely ill the year before. Additionally, the reverse commemorates the introduction of the first physician into Rome by an ancestor of the moneyer.
