Nero â€" 60-61 AD [Coin no. 458]AR denarius, Lugdunum mint, 3.69 gm. Obv.: NERO CAESAR AVG IMP, bare head of Nero, right. Rev.: PONTIF MAX TRP VII  COS IIII P P, Ceres standing, left, holding corn and long torch, EX SC in fields. VF. Rare. S 1937; RIC 30; BMC 32; RSC 224.Bought at auction from Noble Numismatics in April 2018 (Sale 117).So far as I’m aware, a denarius of this type has never been sold by V Auctions and the one bought by me is the only one ever sold by Noble Numismatics. Only one has been sold by Dea Moneta. This was a low-quality coin, significantly inferior in quality to mine. It sold for €150 a few years ago and was categorised as “very rare” by Dea Moneta. A search of ACSearch’s database reveals only 11 of these coins that have been offered for sale (most of them are catgorised as very rare. Those that were sold range in price from $362 (20 April 2014, VF) to US$1234 (25 November 2008, rated [somewhat generously] EF/Good EF).Given that this coin should be categorised as very rare, I am inclined to put a reserve of US$450 on it, subject to any contrary opinion you may have.
