Ca. 500-350 B.C. AR 1/2 karshapana (12 mm, 1.43 g). Fish over stylized lion right; bold taurine to right / Blank. van't Haaff, Type 1.11. Scarce and choice. Very fine.
The Surasena janapada was mentioned in the great Hindu epic Ramayana. The ancient Geek writers also referred to the kingdom of Sourasenoi and mentioned its capital as Methora (Mathura).
