Prithviraja III. Ca. A.D. 1149-1192. BI jital (16 mm, 3.17 g). Horseman right, with Devanagari legend Sri Pri/thvi(raja Deva) around / two soldiers standing facing, heads turned toward one another, each holding spear and resting hand on grounded shield; between, two standards; . Deyell 225. This specimen has the king’s name Prithvi clearly visible. Very fine.

Prithviraj Chauhan is the legendary king of Delhi and Ajmer who decisively defeated Muhammad Ghori (bin Sam) in 1191, only to be defeated and killed by the Muslim invader the following year. Prithviraj's fame as the warrior hero of the Rajputs lives on in the epic poem Prithviraj Raso composed by Chand Bardai.
