Roman school, 16th century, The Lamentation, bronze plaquette, Christ's body attended by the Virgin, St. John, Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus and other figures, 104 x 73.7mm (Molinier 568-9; Bange 1028; Kress 300, fig. 391; Scaglia VIII.9), very fine early cast, somewhat weak and with sprue showing on reverse. Provenance: David Abbate (New York City); Heinz Schneider (Cleveland, Ohio), Edwin Lubin, New York dealer.
