SICILY. Messana. 412-408 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.03 g, 8 h). Nymph Messana, wearing chiton and holding reins with both hands, driving biga of mules walking to left; above, Nike flying right to crown Messana; in exergue, two opposed dolphins. Rev. ΜΕΣΣΑΝΙΟΝ (retrograde) Hare springing to right; below, diademed head of youthful Pan to left, with tiny horns over his forehead. Caltabiano 605 (D217/R237). SNG ANS 370 (same dies). Nicely toned and clear; fine style. Usual edge splits from striking. About extremely fine.
