ISLANDS OFF IONIA, Samos. Circa 477/6-461/0 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 13.10 g, 10 h), Samian standard. Lion's scalp facing, marked with an A on the forehead. Rev. ΣΑM Forepart of an ox to right. Barron 21 (A13/P21). HGC 6, 1186. Traité II, 3, 1780 and pl. CL 3. Well struck and toned; a very rare coin. Test cut on the obverse above the ox's head, otherwise, very fine.
