ZMYPNAIΩN Prow right; below, prawn. BMC 198. Klose 3-5. SNG Copenhagen 1312. With a particularly naturalistic depiction of a prawn; a rare coin. Slightly rough, mainly on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.



The prawns of Smyrna were famous in antiquity: preserved ones were shipped to Rome.
