LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 6.29 g, 1 h), c. 370s. Head of Demeter to left, wearing necklace and with her hair bound up with a broad fillet; above left, small ear of barley. Rev. ΜΕTAΠONTI Ear of barley; to right, vine branch with grape cluster. HN III 1525. Noe 470 (same dies). SNG Lockett 395 (same dies). A particularly scarce variety, nicely toned. Very fine.
