Gallienus, 253-268. Antoninianus (Silver, 22 mm, 4.59 g, 6 h), Samosata mint, 2nd emission, c. 256-260. IMP C P LIC GALLIENVS P F AVG Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. VIRTVS AVGG Gallienus and Valerian I, both laureate and in military dress, standing facing each other; on the left, Gallienus holds a spear and globe, and, on the right, Valerian holds Victory and a transverse spear. Cohen 1310. RIC 456. A bright example. Extremely fine.



This coin must have been issued shortly before the Battle of Edessa where Valerian was captured by Shapur I.
